Susan Burgess moved to Cornwall in 2002 after retiring from teaching commitments. Living near St Ives she was influenced by the whole atmosphere of the area and enjoyed the rugged coastline and the light effects that the north coast of Cornwall offers. Due to health and family commitments she moved back to Derbyshire in 2007, having lived here for 10 years prior to Cornwall. She was able to slot back to life of the Dales from which she draws inspiration.
Susan’s inspiration comes from many subjects and is now turning her attention to the dramatic and colourful landscapes that surround her. She particularly enjoys the heather and the autumn colours, however, she hasn’t deserted the dramatic coastline of Cornwall which features in her expressive paintings of the sea.
