Brian Fletcher pear

Brian is a committed and passionate painter. He describes himself as expressionist, whose work is underpinned by great respect for observational drawing. He enjoys painting directly from the portrait and the figure.

He works in many different media. Graphite in particular affords him the oppurtunity for precise drawing as well as reflecting an interest in expressive and gestural mark making. He delights in the ‘juiciness’ of oil paint and fluidity of watercolour which encourage him to move away from primary sources of inspiration into imaginative interpretations.

He exhibits locally and nationally. In 2009 he won the major prize in the RBSA Members and Associates exhibition and had work in a Royal Society of British Artists exhibitions in London. In 2010 his work was accepted for the City Art Gallery Birmingham Open Exhibition.

He is inspired by a statement by Ivon Hitchens –

“I look at nature and write my own song about it”
